2/12/2024 - Week 49 - This life is a probationary state

Hey everyone! Hope y'all have had a great week.

It has been rainy here, but that is a-ok. It's starting to seem like spring here, which is surprising to me, because it is February... But anyway it's Monday again so that means you get a silly little update from me!

Last p-day we were in Huntsville with a bunch of missionaries in northern Alabama and we went to top golf! I'm not very good at it, but it's fun. It's also just fun to hang out with other missionaries and chat with them.

On Tuesday we went on exchanges with the sisters in Huntsville and I got to go with the lovely Sister Lewis! She is so awesome, she's just in her 2nd transfer, but she is such an amazing missionary! It blows me away, she's so awesome. I got to meet their most progressing friend, Jabrel! I've heard so much about him and I'm glad I got to meet him. ALSO on Tuesday I hit 11 months as a missionary... It's far too close to hitting a year as a missionary for my taste. But we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

The next morning we remembered that the seminary teachers wanted us to come in and teach for a little bit, so we scooted over there and basically role played teaching someone to a big group of teenagers. It was really funny. Later that day we had a lesson with one of our friends, Ilene! She is really awesome! She said that after the last time we came by she was praying and thanking the Lord for sending us her way and for how polite we were. She's so sweet. She was going to come to church, but then she wasn't feeling well. Good thing there is always next week.

On Friday we went out to see Jamie again! It was awesome to see her, she had surgery last week, but she is doing pretty well now. She's got a robot looking brace on her arm. We also literally had the weirdest lesson ever on Friday. We went out to the tiny town of Hollywood Alabama (just outside of Scottsboro) and visited with our friends Elizabeth, Tara, and Eleine. They are a daughter, mom, and grandma trio. While we were there we found out the daughter is on probation, then she got really mad and stormed out the door. The mom and grandma sat there trying to decide what to do. They're talking about calling the police, then talking about taking her phone away and how she shouldn't even have a phone. It was so weird they were talking like we weren't even there.

But we've had a couple cool lessons during the week, most of them over the phone or on Zoom which is interesting. We talked to a couple ladies who want to meet with us and come to church!

On Sunday we also got to meet with Carolann for the first time in a long time, but Sister Springer got to meet her and it was awesome! It's kinda wild, she has a little baby and when I got to this area he was like 2 months old and now he's 8 months old. He got so big!

You know what's also crazy? The people here. For a few weeks now we have kinda been turning over our teaching pool. We're not teaching a lot of the same people we were before and we don't have a whole lot of people to teach. But the hardest part is that the people here think they know everything they need to know about Jesus. And it's hard because we want to tell them there is so much more! And it's amazing and life changing! But that's where their agency comes into play. Sister Springer and I are trying our best to come up with ways to encourage people to have open minds about our message and it's been really fun. Anyway, that's my rant.

Spiritual thought:
I was reading Mosiah 24 this week. And that chapter is so goooood! It talks about these people who are going through a lot of trials and burdens and so they prayed, they cried out unto the Lord until they weren't even allowed to do that anymore. But they kept that prayer in their hearts and the Lord blessed them! He made their burdens lighter and he gave them the strength to bear those burdens! And I think it's so significant that He didn't take it away, but he strengthened them through their trials! God is so good and He knows exactly what we need! Sometimes we just want God to take our trials away, but sometimes that's not what we need.

Have a great week, y'all are the best

Roll tide roll
