4/22/2024 - Week 59 - Queso Blanco

Hey friends,

Sister Huish and I have been laughing all week, we also speak to each other in southern accents about 90% of the time its so funny. We had a really funny member dinner with a less active member on Tuesday night. It was VERY southern. We had fried squash, green bean casserole, and chicken thighs. And Sister Wilkinson and her mom Glenda are very southern. Glenda is old and losing her mind and her sight and she was telling us about the black bear that lives in the woods behind their house and he is as tall as their giant tree.... I don't think I wanna run into that guy. Oh, I love crazy southern people, they are my favorite.

The next day we were out knocking doors and we knocked on the door of a cop who had a gun on his hip and he was not interested so we immediately left, haha. We got to have dinner with a less active family, the Hawes, they are so amazing, they love missionaries! They just don't love coming to church? Idk, but they made some yummy food. (We were worried that it was going to be fish and neither of us like fish so we literally prayed all day that it wouldn't be, and it wasn't!) And then we got to go have FHE with this cute family and the Elders. We always play Uno and then have a spiritual thought and Elder Bird always wins and it's my mission in life to stop him. So, we'll see how that goes next time.

On Thursday we actually went to a funeral which was really sad, just keep the Barbecho family in your prayers, they're going through a hard time. But we had district council afterward which was good. It's always funny to get to know a new district and new missionaries. We had a good visit with some members that night and got to know them a little better, yay!

On Friday we made a cake! The youth were having a dessert auction to raise funds for their camps this summer so we brought a cake and decorated it with the disciple of christ flame that's like the youth theme for the year, it was cute. It went for 13 dollars... it was also a service auction and the Elders auctioned off a hand drawn portrait of whoever bought it... and they don't draw so we'll see how that goes for them.

On Saturday we got to go to this little Stake Women's Conference over in Fort Walton and we went with these two older ladies who are both recent converts, and they are hilarious. They were killing me. There were a bunch of other missionaries at the conference and I got to see Sister Goff! Love her. It was so much fun, we had some speakers and musical numbers and food. The best!

Yesterday we had dinner with this cute couple, The Boyd's. They are so funny, I can't even explain the experience of being at the Boyd's house I just love them so much, they're hilarious.

Also random funny things that Sis Huish and I keep saying:
-One time I choked on water when she was telling me about how much she loves queso blanco and so now whenever someone chokes or coughs we're like "queso blanco?"
-we came up with a band name "fruit snack coaster" and whenever we play songs from the youth album we ask "Is this one by fruit snack coaster?"
-We look at our watches and ask each other if it's snack o' clock... it's often snack o' clock

Spiritual thought:
The theme of the women's conference was 2 Nephi 31:20 and having a perfect brightness of hope! Hope in the Savior and his ability to heal and comfort us. One thing that somebody said was that change is constant but so is the Savior. Life is hard and we will often be faced with change and new challenges, but the one thing that doesn't change is that the Savior will always be there to support us!

I love y'all, have a great week!

❤️Sister Hansen
