5/6/2024 - Week 61 - Knockie o'clockie

Hey everyone,

I hope it's been a great week for y'all! We had a good week, it has started warming up here, its been in the 80s all week... and it is HUMID. To quote Sister Huish it's "Mad mug" (Mad muggy).

We were out knocking doors one day and we knocked on this door and nobody answered after while so I went to go knock again, and what I usually do is open the storm door to knock on the real door behind it (because everyone here has a storm door) and I went to open the door right as the lady answered the door, and I was like Oh no! I'm sorry! And we just said we were missionaries and she was like "I'm not interested", so we were like, okay we hope you have a great day, and she said "yeah me too" and flashed a gun on us... needless to say we were out of there.

On Wednesday we were so excited because we had a whole bunch of lessons and things planned, but one by one they all got cancelled. :( Which was really sad, but we still got to have a lesson with Shannan and one of our members. Then our dinner appointment and FHE got canceled so we went to mutual and when we got there the youth all left :( They were all going to go on ministering visits or something, so Mutual fell through also, it just seemed like one thing after the other.

On Thursday we got to have interviews with President which is always fun, and then we had dinner with some members at Cracker Barrel, iconic. Then we got to have FHE with the Hannon's since we weren't able to on Wednesday!

The next day we had service with Evie, helping with her lil chicken coop! She has some cute little chickies! And we also visited with the Barbecho's for the first time in a long time, because they've been going through it lately, but they said that we can come back and start teaching them again! Keep them in your prayers please!

We visited a member who's AC was out and it was so stinkin' hot in her house we were both sweating up a storm. We also went to Walmart to find people to teach and we asked this one lady if she needed any prayers and she actually cackled in our faces! She was like so shook that we asked if she needed prayers she's like "that's a new one". But we got to have dinner with our ward mission leader and his fam which was super fun (and their two year old was flirting with us).

We have been really struggling to find people to teach, but last night after our dinner appointment we had knocked a couple doors and were about to leave the area when I felt like we should stop at this one house. So we pulled over and knocked on the door and the lady who answered said she has met with missionaries in the past and was actually thinking about us! So we gave her a Book of Mormon and we'll be coming back this week! So that was a major miracle.

Spiritual thought:
I've been reading in Preach My Gospel about relying on the Spirit and following the promptings that we receive. And that's something that I've been really trying to apply to my missionary work lately because this is the Lord's work and if we try to do it on our own we're not gonna get very far. And that's not just true for missionaries, but for everyone, because we're all a part of this work! And I know that the Spirit speaks to all of us, but it's up to us if we listen and obey those promptings. It's easy to talk about it and say that we'll do it, but when the prompting actually comes, it's a lot easier to push it aside. For example, last night I almost didn't pull over and knock on that door and if I hadn't we wouldn't have met Yajaira! So you never know what blessing you might be missing out on, for yourself or for others! God is good and the Holy Ghost is good, so listen to what they have to say!

Random thoughts:
-Sister Huish and I have transitioned to speaking to each other in Irish accents 90 percent of the time instead of southern, so that's been fun!
-Saw 3 different turtles this week!
-Sister Huish likes to stick her gum on my sunglasses when she's done with it! So kind!
- got rained on HARD and the power went out for a few seconds
- got absolutely munched on by mosquitos. My feet are covered in bites
- Sister Huish and I call each other Sherlock Holmes all the time (with the Irish accent) example: you don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to figure that one out

I love y'all, I hope it's an awesome week! Let me know what you've been up to!

(Also today marks 14 months as a missionary for me. 😬 Where is the time going????)
