Happy June 19th everybody,
It's my birthday :)
I'm officially 21 which is absolutely crazy!
It's been a good week, Tuesday after District Council we got tacos from a taqueria around here, and our waitress didn't speak English haha, luckily an elder in our district speaks spanish. Later that day we were looking for some new people to teach and Sister Hyde goes "Lets knock on that door" So we did and this girl (probably around my age) opens the door and out run these 2 labradoodles. She didn't seem too worried about it, but the dogs kept getting farther and farther away from the house. Eventually we started yelling after them and we were able to get the dogs back in the house, but we didn't even get the girls name haha. To top it off she was house and dog sitting and those weren't her dogs
We had a tornado warning this week and it was raining so hard and the wind was blowing like crazy, kinda fun! Also I don't remember which day, but I hit 100 days! I've put this tag on my chest everyday for 100 days, I can't believe it.
All week I've been trying to figure out this sewing machine that I found in our apartment because Sis Hyde has a dress that she wants the sleeves altered on. I couldn't get the needle to go in the machine, and although I had never done it before I thought, how hard can it be?" I unscrewed everything, did research on it, and tried to reverse engineer this sewing machine, but I couldn't get the needle to go in. Finally I caved and we brought it to a sewing store, the lady behind the counter tried putting the needle in and said "This needle is too big" I didn't know that was a thing, but I guess that was the whole problem. But this sewing machine is old and missing its needle plate and other things so it doesn't work anyway lol. It would cost more than it's worth to get it serviced and I checked my missionary funds, and I am not going to buy a new sewing machine.
On Thursday while we were working on planning out our week and evaluating our teaching pool, we got a call from a member asking if we wanted to go eat, it was 4:30 and we weren't done yet, but we said you know what, yes ma'am. So we went and she told us about how crazy her life has been and I was blown away by the things she told us. I thought she had one daughter, turns out she has 6 other kids that live far away and don't talk to her.
That night one of the counselors in the bishopric asked me to speak in church on Sunday.
Friday we met a lady who told us to call her Dr. Reynolds, I have no idea what her first name is or if she even has a doctorate, but that's her name I guess. We also visited this family in our ward who have the cutest kids and they were playing with water balloons, it's so much fun to watch them play.
We had dinner with a couple in our ward on Saturday and they are just so cool. Their kids are all grown, and I love hearing about their experiences and their children's lives. I also spent a lot of this day writing my talk and stressing about it lol.
Sunday I gave the fateful talk. It went pretty well, they asked me to speak for 10-12 minutes, but I spoke for 9 1/2 minutes. The ward members told me I did a good job, but one of them told me to smile more so I gotta work on that. I think my character flaw is that I'm too serious. After I was done speaking, our friend Nathaniel who was at church leaned over to Sister Hyde and said "are you proud of her?" Sis Hyde said she was :) We had a good Sunday and I got to call home and talk to my Dad yesterday, happy Father's Day Pacha!
Sister Hyde is the best and she put up some decorations for my birthday! She even wrapped my package from my family (and amazon) in Christmas wrapping paper, just for me!
Spiritual thought:
Like I said, today is my birthday. I've been reflecting on all the things that happened in my 20th year of life. I spent a long time working on mission papers, met both my nieces, got my mission call, worked a job, quit a job, went to the temple, worked in the temple, started my missionary service, and met so many amazing people since I've been here.
It's crazy to think of all that has happened in the last year of my life, but I know that God has been there for all of it. I know that all of it happened for a reason and I honestly can't imagine being anywhere else right now. Missionary service is life changing, I can't believe how much it has changed me already. This time next year I will be a couple months away from going home. I've been learning to take advantage of every day and to get all I can out of it.
Have a great week! I love you all, thanks for the bday wishes
