4/3/2023 - Week Four - The Mission Field!

Sister Hansen made it to the Mission field! She almost didn't make it, but her Mission President saved the day! It was a very long day, they were up at 2:30 am and arrived in Alabama at 2:30 am the next day. Her new companion and trainer, Sister Hyde, is another Idaho girl!  She's from Preston.

Here's Kaylee's letter for this week:

Hello everybody!

Just as I promised I am coming to you from the great state of Alabama! It was quite the adventure to get here, but we made it!

Let's start at the beginning. On Monday night our MTC district got together for our last little hurrah. We played piano, laughed, drew on a chalkboard, and took some pictures. We did all we could to prepare for our travels and at 2:30 Tuesday morning we were up again. We went through all the shenanigans of boarding busses, the frontrunner, and walking with heavy luggage to get to the airport. We made it through security and everything and boarded our flight headed to Detroit. Before the plane even took off a passenger got stuck in the bathroom. And what I mean by that is the door was literally stuck! They had maintenance people on and off trying to do anything to get the door to open. Finally about 30 minutes later they freed this man from the airplane bathroom.

Unfortunately for us, we only had 30 minutes between landing and take off for our connecting flight to Birmingham. We got off the plane as soon as we could and ran all the way to our gate (at the opposite side of the airport) just in time time watch our plane rolling away. After many different plans and communicating with our mission president we had a new plan. We took a flight to Atlanta, late at night and then the APs picked us up and drove us to Alabama! We stayed in a hotel and went to bed around 2:30 am. What a day.

The next day we had our little orientation and got to meet our trainers! Shoutout to Sister Hyde, best trainer ever!!! We are serving in Decatur! And now I guess I'm a real missionary? It's good though, we have talked to so many people already. The people here in the south are so friendly, southern hospitality is a real thing! One of the people we're teaching was put on baptismal date the other day! I had nothing to do with it, I just showed up.

On Friday there were some tornado warnings. We were safe and I don't think the tornado was even close to us. But the next morning everyone's internet was out. We had planned to go watch conference with one of our friends but we couldn't because of the lack of internet. We ended up watching it on our phones so we didn't miss it! We got to watch the other 4 sessions with some  members of the ward, which was so awesome!

It has been a wild week and I'm sure there will be plenty more crazy weeks to come!

For my spiritual thought I want to share a theme I noticed in general conference. It seems like the Lord wants us to hear a message of peace and comfort. The scripture "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid” (John 14:26–27). Was shared multiple times this conference. I know that our prophet and apostles know things that we don't and they also know the words that we need to hear. I hope that we can all find ways to seek the peace that the Savior brings.

Have a great week everybody!

Sister Hansen
