5/29/2023 - Week 12 - A Birthday Jubilee

Hello everyone!! Happy Memorial Day!

This week was actually a great week! Not a lot happened with our progressing friends, we didn't do very well with getting members out to lessons, but it was still a good week!

On Tuesday it was Sister Hyde's Birthday!!!! She is officially no longer a teenager! However, I think I was a lot more excited about sister Hyde's birthday than she was. She doesn't like her birthday and while I don't understand, I do respect it. But she said herself that it ended up being a good birthday! We had district council and nobody in our district knew it was her bday and I wasn't allowed to tell them. Later in the day we met two lovely people named Joyce and Ron and they were out playing guitars by the Tennessee river! We talked to them and they let sister hyde play their guitars, she was so happy! They also sang happy birthday to her! It was really fun. We also took some birthday pictures and ate some yummy birthday cake that a member of our ward bought for her!

I had a little miracle happen this week that helped me feel better about my ability to be a missionary lol. The other day we were talking to our friend KJ and I suggested that we invite him to read Lehi's vision in 1 Nephi 8, we set a follow up appointment with him the next day and when we went back he didn't answer the door. I was so sad, because I thought it would be so good for him and I had just studied it. The next day we went to our friend, Don and he said he had some questions about the chapter he had been reading in the Book of Mormon- the chapter was Lehi's vision. We hadn't even invited him to read it. I was able to talk to him about the vision and explain it to him and I was so happy that I had thought of that chapter for a reason!

We visited a less active and he had some issues with the church, I think it's mostly imperfect people in a perfect church. But he also told stories about his life and his service in the navy, he also worked in the CIA and for the police? Sounds like he's had a crazy life, but he said he would feed us anytime we needed food haha.

On Thursday we went over to the church to do some social media and when we got there there were a bunch of cars in the parking lot and we were wondering what was going on, and when we went inside they were cleaning up from a graduation party for one of the youth, so we got to help them clean it up! It was a lot of fun and we got to do a little service for the ward!

Friday night we met Santa Claus at Cracker Barrel, we didn't get a picture but he gave us a picture of himself?

On Saturday there was this big event in Decatur called the hot air balloon Jubilee. They had a bunch of hot air balloons being inflated and flying away in the sky, we got to go for a little bit and it was CROWDED! We talked to some people on the street as we were walking there (because we had to park so far away) and they said they had never seen it this busy so I guess it was a good turn out! We took some pictures and talked to some people. It was so fun!

We did have a major miracle! There was this lady who wanted to learn more about the church emailed Salt Lake and then they referred her to the missionaries here. That happened way before I got here and she lives too far away for us to visit her and she has horrible service so we can never get in contact with her, but the other day we were able to call her and she happens to be cousins with our recent convert Tim!!!! And they live on the same street so one day he will be able to take her to church!

Yesterday church was super awesome and we got to pop into the nursery because they were learning about missionaries! Later that day we had a book of Mormon study with our new friend, Richard, but then he started talking about how the book of Mormon is good, but we really need to be reading the bible, and we were like we do, but he kept preaching about the bible. The bible belt is real.

We have zone conference tomorrow and I'm so excited so plan on hearing all about it next week!

Spiritual Thought:
Lately I've really grown to love the restoration of the church. I've been reading the first saints book and it is so good! The trials that the saints went through and that Joseph Smith went through to restore the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the earth is incredible and wonderful. I'm so grateful that they had the faith to withstand the hardships that they faced. Go read or listen to the saints books if you get the chance, they are so good!
