1/22/2024 - Week 46 - "Snowed-in" in Scottsboro

Hello! Happy winter!

Let me tell you, this has been probably the weirdest week of my entire mission. If you remember from last week we were "snowed in" in our apartment. (There wasn't any snow) but the roads were icy so we weren't allowed to drive. We thought it would maybe last a couple of days... we just got permission to drive again a few minutes ago. So it's been a wild week of being inside! Every day we thought we would be free again and every day they were like "nope you gotta stay inside" we filled our days with:
-making phone calls
-reaching people on social media
-cleaning our apartment
-watching The Chosen
-catching up on journaling
-studying
-and a slew of the most random activities you could think of

Here are some highlights of the hilarities of this week
- Sister Springer put cornrows in my hair. And when we showed the elders the were dying- they want her to do it to their hair, too.
- since we were unable to shop last p-day we have had an interesting assortment of food this week. One day for lunch we at frozen vegetables we found in the freezer. Sister Springer burned her green beans and caused the smoke alarm to go off
- along with our lack of food, one of the staples of our meals has been peanut butter. We've been eating that stuff by the SPOONFUL- we downed that thing
- one of the elders in our district buzzed his head- then later we were on a call with him and his companion and the other sisters and he sang God Be With You Till We Meet Again
- I got caught up on my journaling for the first time since last transfer!
- one of our friends confessed his love for the both of us and told me I would look good with dreads... we're not teaching him anymore... he's in his 60s
- yesterday our branch president texted us and told us we were amazing and we meant to send a reply saying "thanks, you too" but accidentally sent an auto response that says "yeah we are"
- saved a lot of miles this week!

The days have all blurred together and I could not tell you the order of things, but we got to go to church yesterday! We got a ride with some members of our branch and we were allowed out! It was such a blessing to go out and see people and attend church! During one of the talks in sacrament meeting one of our inactive members walked in and sat down. Another sister got right up and sat next to her. ❤️ We also had an awesome phone call lesson with one of our friends who was found over social media and it turns out that she knows a family in our branch and she's best friends with their daughter who's currently serving a mission! God really is in the details of our lives.

Oh also- we got transfer news this week and I will be staying in Scottsboro with Sister Springer!

Spiritual thought:
I have been thinking about the atonement of Jesus Christ a lot this week. I just know that because Christ suffered for us, he took on all our sins, and all our pains. He knows exactly what we are going through when we go through hard things. Which in this life, is a lot. I've realized that in life there will always be struggles. Even if you are in a better place than you were in the past, or if your situation seems like it should be perfect, we live in a fallen world so there will always be trials. But the good news is that we can learn from those trials! And because of Christs atonement we can move on and be healed after the trials. So don't forget that Jesus loves you and I love you!

I hope y'all have a warmer week 😉

❤️Sister Hansen
